Hunter Tylo Bio: The Days of Our Lives & The Masked One (1988-90)

 

After leaving AMC, and during 1988 and 1989, Hunter was able to travel, do some work on the television series called Zorro (in Spain), and study a medical degree at New York's Fordham University. On April 24th, 1988, Michael Edward Tylo II was born (generally called Mickey). Family and travel and work can definitely mix, as the Tylo family proved during these years.

 

On every other wedding anniversary they tried to go to Hawaii, and tried to travel as much as possible other times. They also tried to take the children with them as often as possible because they are a tight knit family unit and do not like being away from each other. This is a value that we should all probably heed - family is important.

 

Anyway, by 1989, Hunter landed the, Los Angeles based, role of one of the most sought after, and ultimately hated, characters on daytime television - "Marina Toscano Johnson", on Days of Our Lives. "Marina" was the ex-wife of "Steve 'Patch' Johnson", and she came back to Salem to break up the super couple of "Patch" and "Kayla".

 

This turned out to be a big mistake and the show and Hunter were flooded with hate letters very quickly. Hunter was ultimately released from her contract within six months of starting the role. All was not lost, though, as something that she did come away with from this role was a new look - she was previously a blonde, for the AMC role, but went back to her natural darker colored hair.

 

Although she had long dark, curly hair at the time (see below) we could all see a transformation coming. While all this was going on, Michael had also been doing the TV series Zorro (since 1988), in Spain. In 1990, Michael and Hunter were ready to move back to New York from LA, because Michael had finished Zorro, and Hunter was ready to concentrate on premed courses. With their bags packed it was then that Hunter was asked to consider a role on another daytime soap.
